Abstract
Reinforcing fibres and a liquid binding agent, e.g. a polyester resin, are moulded into a predetermined shape in a mould assembly comprising two parts adapted to be closed together to form a moulding cavity, by first placing the fibres in one of the two parts, then placing the other part in contact with the fibres, introducing the liquid binding agent, and applying pressure to the mould parts to compress the fibres and to disperse the liquid binding agent throughout the fibres. The examples describe the moulding of a dished plate and of an open box using as the reinforcement a glass fibre mat sewn to cellulose scrim, and as binding agent a styrenated polyester resin containing curing agents.
