Abstract
A process for the production of pneumatic or hydraulic pipes comprises heating the pipes by an external burner to a temperature close to but below the hardening temperature and then heating the inner surface above the hardening temperature and quenching, the outer surface being maintained below the hardening temperature during the heating of the inner surface to hardening temperature. During the final heating of the inner surface, which may be performed by a burner followed by a quenching device, the outer surface may be subjected to an air blast or to an air blast and a spray of water, the latter moving relatively to the pipe to form a helical or zig-zag pattern of material having a greater depth of softness than the remainder of the material. The pipe or the cooling device may be given a rotary or an oscillatory movement.
