797,878. Dump semi-trailers. SCHONROCK, E. A. Nov. 13, 1956, No. 34695/56. Class 108(1) A dump semi-trailer comprises a chassis 16, on which is mounted a rear axle assembly 20, spring hangers 40 mounted on said chassis, springs 22 having said rear axle assembly secured thereto and being seated in said spring hangers, lift arms 32 connecting the semi-trailer to a tractor, said lift arms being adapted to raise the front end of the semi-trailer and thus tilt it when the rear end is brought closer to the tractor, a carriage 54 mounted on said spring hangers 40, and engagement means connected to said carriage for engaging a device whereby the rear end of the semitrailer may be moved towards or away from its tractor. The spring hangers 40 of unitary or welded construction provide mountings for the rear axle torque rods 70 and pivotally support the carriage 54 a plate like member having pulleys 68 mounted thereon, the horizontal axis of the plate being parallel to the rear axle. The above mentioned device comprises a cable 26 driven by a power winch 24 mounted on the fifth wheel assembly 12 of the tractor. In a modification of the carriage plate Fig. 4 (not shown) the pulleys thereon may rotate about a vertical axis.
