Abstract

797,823. Amplitude-modulating systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. (Lorenz Akt.-Ges., C.). Feb. 22, 1956,.No. 5480/56. Class 40 (5). In a carrier modulator comprising a parallelmodulated unbalanced push-pull carrier amplifier Ro1-Ro2 the cathode of Ro1 is kept more negative than Ro2 by a voltage #Uo giving different non-cancelling carrier voltages and a resultant residual carrier voltage at load resistor R2 and an additive carrier voltage at resistor R 1. The sideband components cancel at R2 and add at R1. Thus an unmodulated output is derived across load resistor R2 and a modulated output is derived across load resistor R1 whose mutual phase relationships are independent of the tuned circuit adjustments. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the carrier voltage amplitudes are made equal by omitting voltage #Uo and the modulating voltage amplitudes are made unequal by means of an unbalanced modulation transformer.
