Abstract

797,437. Charge mixers. BRADSHAW, N. H. June 26, 1956 [June 8, 1955], No. 19770/55. Class 7(2) Fuel is mixed and atomized by helical members 13, preferably formed by coiling oval springs, disposed around a central support 10 so that the major portion of the fuel flows axially along the springs. The support 10 is in the form of a tube with radial arms between which are pockets to receive the springs 13, the top of the tube being partially closed by a flat or domeshaped cap having a central aperture. The members 10, 13 are carried by a cone 14 made of wire gauze and secured peripherally between the flanges 16 of an induction manifold 17 downstream of the carburettor. A frusto-conical gauze 21 of smaller mesh than the cone 14 abuts against it. Each spring 13 is secured to the cone 14 by a bifurcated pin 23, the head of which is retained in the gauze by a pin 26 and the ends of which are bent over at 27. A dome 29 deflects the 'fuel. For a twin manifold, the device is duplicated, the gauze members being supported in a common gasket.
