Abstract

797,435. Resilient mountings. METALASTIK, Ltd. May 18, 1956 [June 17, 1955], No. 17616/55. Class 108(3) A vibration absorbing device comprises a pair of nested members 23, 30 between which is a ring member 24 of rubber which has at least two separate circumferentially spaced pockets the only access to which is through an opening in either or both peripheral surfaces of the member 24 so that the latter closes the mouth of each pocket against ingress of extraneous matter. In Fig. 3 the member 24 is in the form of a rubber annulus disposed between a ring 23 adapted to receive a bearing for the support of the transmission shaft (not shown) of a motor vehicle, and a strap 30 secured to the vehicle frame 32. Different forms of annulus 24 are shown on respective sides of the dot-dash line of symmetry of this Figure. On the right-hand side, the annulus is formed with recesses 27 opening alternately into its outer and inner periphery. The recesses are closed respectively by engagement with the member 23 and strap 30. According to the left-hand side of Fig. 3 the recesses are of different shape and the annulus is divided into upper and lower halves. The strap 30 may be formed with peripheral flanges which may terminate in a periphery which is of smaller radius than the maximum radius of the member 23. The annulus 24 may be bonded to either of the members 23, 30, or may be maintained in position between them by radial pressure. The annulus 24 may be in the form of two annuli each of L-shape in cross-section and spaced apart axially by a U-shape annular projection of the member 23, (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). The annulus 24 may be produced in continuous strip form (Figs. 7 to 12 not shown). In Fig. 13, the rubber strip having Dockets 49, is bonded to a metal band 50. Fig. 19 shows a further form of the annulus 24.
