Abstract

797,219. Orientating cans. PETFOODS, Ltd., [formerly CHAPPIE, Ltd.]. July 20, 1956 [July 28, 1955], No. 21874/55. Class 78 (1). A can-orientating machine comprises a shoot 10 which has a hole 16 and guides 19, the cans being advanced thereto by conveyer 13. Each can which arrives at shoot 10 positioned on its flat cylindrical face passes unchanged to position 142, where it then slides on to conveyer 23 so as to be carried away thereby correctly orientated, as shown, with the plain cylindrical face parallel to the length of the conveyer. Each can which arrives positioned to roll down shoot 10, its flat cylindrical faces being parallel to the sides 11 of the shoot, falls down hole 16, and, by means of twist shoot 26, is twisted so as to be discharged by conveyer 27 (not shown) correctly orientated as above and fed to conveyer 23. Each can which arrives positioned to slide down on its curved surface but with its plain cylindrical faces perpendicular to the side of the shoot (i.e. position 14c shown) is tipped by hole 16 to take up position 142 and, as before, is discharged by conveyer 23 properly orientated. All cans are thus uniformly aligned.
