796,745. Absorption cell for liquids. GENERAL INSTRUMENTS CO., Ltd., and TADAYON, J. Jan. 30, 1957 [Jan. 30, 1956]. No. 2961/56. Class 97(1) A variable path-length absorption cell for liquids consists of an apertured inner member 3 slidably and, non-rotatably mounted within an apertured outer member 1 and means for securing windows 5, 9 to close the apertures so that the opposing inner surfaces of the windows are parallel, and perpendicular to the direction of relative translational movement of-the members, a rotatable adjusting member 17 in screw threaded engagement with the outer member 1 to move the adjusting member relatively to the outer member 1 in the said direction, and means for holding the adjusting member and the inner member against relative movement in the said direction. As shown, rotation of the inner member 3 relative to the outer member 1 is prevented by pillars 14 in the former fitting into slots 12 of the latter. The adjusting member 17 and the inner member 3 are constrained from relative vertical movement by means of a ball race 20, or alternatively by means of a pin and slot coupling.
