Abstract

796,458. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. June 22, 1956 [July 20, 1955], No. 19384/56. Class 112 Means for putting a sewing machine feed dog out of action comprise a member slidably but non-rotatably mounted on a feedlift rock-shaft, a bracket rockable with said shaft, a pin slidably mounted in said bracket, one end of the pin being tapered and the other end being engaged in a curved slot provided in the slidable member, whereby movement of the latter serves to engage or disengage said tapered end with or from a lever member. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3A a feed-bar 21, carrying a feed dog 22, is connected by a crank 19 to a feed-advance rock-shaft 17, the connection between the feed bar and a feed-lift rock shaft 18 being such as to permit the lowering of the feed dog below the cloth plate 16. Shaft 18 carries a bracket 52 pivoted at 62 to a lever member 69 provided with a roller 24 disposed in a forked end 23 of the feed bar, a spring 66 urging lever 69 in the clockwise direction. A pin 48, slidable in bracket 52, has a tapered end 49 and a groove 47 in the other end engaged with a curved slot 46 in a flange 44 of a member 39 slidable on shaft 18. A link 34 connects slider 39 with a lever 27 pivoted at 28 to the machine frame. Movement of lever 27 from one end position to another thereby serves to engage or disengage tapered end 49 with or from a fork 71 in lever 69, whereby moving feed dog 22 to the operative or inoperative position. In a modification, Figs. 6, 7, 9, a feed bar 121 carrying a feed dog 122 is connected by a crank 119 to a feed-advance rock-shaft 117, and a feed-lift rock shaft 118, having an arm which carries a roller 124 engaged in a forked end 123 of the feed bar, is adapted to be coupled or uncoupled from a driving shaft 191. A lever member 160, pivoted on shaft 118, has a fork 181 embracing a cam 189 fixed to shaft 191. A bracket 152, fixed to shaft 118, slidably carries a pin 148 having a tapered end 149 and a groove 147 at the other end engaged in a curved slot 146 in one arm of a U-shaped member 139 slidably mounted on shaft 118. A spring 166, connected between bracket 152 and lever 160, biases shaft 118 in the counterclockwise direction. A link 134 connects slider 139 to a crank 129 fixed to the lower end of a spindle 127, the upper end of which carries an operating knob 128. Turning of the latter to one or the other end position thereby serves to engage or disengage tapered end 149 with or from a fork 186 in lever 160, whereby moving feed dog 122 to the operative or inoperative position.
