[Also in Group XXIV] In a brake having, hollow friction member 18 with a metal facing 17 cooled by the continuous circulation of liquid in the space behind, as by a pump 1 driving liquid through pipes 3 and 5 and heat exchanger 7, such liquid is maintained at such a pressure that it is not possible for it to boil and form a lamina of vapour adjacent the back surface of facing 17, thereby destroying the efficient transfer of heat.
