Abstract

796,231. Resilient mountings. METALASTIK, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1956 [Nov. 8, 1955], No. 31955/55. Class 108(3) The invention relates to vibration absorbing mountings of the kind comprising a ring-like mass (e.g. a complete ring or a plurality of angularly-spaced blocks) of rubber 11 disposed between a base member 5 and a supported member 9. According to the invention, the mass 11 has a plurality of circumferentially-spaced pockets 17 and the support and/or base member 5 has a plurality of projections 16 each to enter one of the pockets 17. The projections 16 serve to limit downward deflection of the member 9. Upward deflection is limited by a conical shaped head 14 which is rigid with the projections 16. As shown, the mass 11 is in the form of a continuous ring in which is embedded a frusto-conical portion 7 of the base member 5. The projections 16 are carried by a plate 24, to which is threaded at 23, a column 12 carrying the head 14. The position of the latter and of the projections 16 axially of the mounting, may be adjusted by the insertion of shims 27. The object to be supported by the mounting may be secured to a peripheral series of threaded holes 28 or to a central bore 29. In a modification (Figs 1 and 2, not shown) the head 14 and projections 16 are carried on a member which is mounted in screw threaded engagement with a member which is normally secured by further screws to the supported member 9. In order to adjust the position of the head 14 and projections 16, the screws are released and the member is rotated relatively to the supported member 9. The head 14, and the screws are re-engaged, when the desired degree of adjustment has been achieved. In a further construction (Fig. 3, not shown), the head 14 and projections 16 are carried by a member which rests on adjustment screws carried by the member 9. The position of the head 14 and projections 16 is thus adjusted by rotation of the screws.
