796,038. Fuel container; motor vehicle frames; spare wheel holders. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Nov. 20, 1956 [Nov. 21, 1955], No. 35484/56. Classes 79(3), 79(4) and 136(1) A rear-engine motor vehicle has two spare wheels 1 mounted across the front of the vehicle, upper and lower side frame members 4, 4a which abut the spare wheels in the case of a frontal collision; a fuel tank 2 being arranged behind the wheels 1 and in front of the front wheel centres low down between the front wheels. The engine 5, Fig. 1, is mounted between rubber mountings 9, 10 at the rear 11 of the vehicle. Luggage compartments 3 and 6 are formed at the front of the vehicle behind the spare wheels 1 and above the fuel tank 2 and at the rear between the seat and wall 7 and above the rear axles 14. The side frame member 4 and 4a may be partially combined with the front wheel wings, Fig. 3 not shown. The drive means may be either an engine-change speed gear unit 5, 12 disposed transversely of the vehicle, Fig. 2, with a flat cylinder block inclined upwards to the rear with a chain transmission 13 to the rear axle 14 or an enginechange speed unit, comprising horizontally opposed cylinders and having the change speed gear arranged between the engine and rear axle.
