Abstract
<PICT:0795745/III/1> In the making of multiple glazing units an electrically conductive stripe, e.g. graphite, is applied around the peripheral edges of the top sheet of glass along the top surface only. No electrically conductive stripe is applied to the lower sheet, but a peripheral stripe of material, e.g. mica, may be applied to the lower face of the lower sheet to prevent it from sticking to the platens in the welding furnace. The sheets are passed into the striping chamber and are properly centred therein. The upper sheet 10 is suspended by a vacuum chuck 325 and the shorter edges of the top surface of the sheet are striped during the forward travel of the carriage 370 having striping applicators 394. The sheet is now moved through a right angle and lowered somewhat so that the longer edges come under and are striped by the applicators 395 on the return movement of the carriage. The mica is applied to the lower face of the lower sheet by other applicators 392, 393 mounted on the carriage. Specification 734,922, [Group XXIII], is referred to.
