Abstract

570,747. Glazing. HADDAN, R. (Corning Glass Works). May 24, 1943, No. 8244. [Class 20 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] Double walled glazing units are formed by supporting two flat sheets spaced apart one above the other and heating the upper sheet A adjacent its edges until they sag and form a wall 13 at right angles to the plane of the upper sheet. The lower edge of the wall is then fused to the plane lower sheet B, leaving the marginal portion 15 of that sheet projecting for installation in an ordinary window frame. In a modification, Fig. 12, three sheets may be joined, the centre sheet remaining flat. The unit may be vented by inserting a " Nichrome " (Registered Trade Mark) wire 35 during formation; this is subsequently removed, dry air is passed into the unit and the hole V left by the wire sealed. U.S.A. Specification 1,794,888 is referred to.
