Abstract

795,523. Rollers. BRITISH COTTON INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Nov. 21, 1955 [Aug. 19, 1954; Nov. 7, 1955], Nos. 24114/54 and 31712/55. Class 42 (2). A pressure roller consists of a non-resilient supporting core a and a resilient cover a, the diameter of core and thickness and/or elasticity of cover, varying throughout the length of the roller, so that bowing of the roller a and its complementary roller under pressure is at least partly compensated for, and the variation of pressure distribution along the roller is reduced. The resilient cover may have initially a shape which anticipates the change of elastic modulus, or the core may be barrel shaped and the external surface of the roller cylindrical. An intermediate bonding layer b of hard rubber may be inserted between the core a and cover c.
