[Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVIII] In order to check that the speed of a vehicle passing over a section of track is below a predetermined value, the vehicle starts a time interval by closing a switch 9 as it enters the section, the duration of the time interval being compared with a standard value by charging a condenser 19 during that time at a predetermined rate, and allowing it to discharge through a relay winding 16 whereby if the charge exceeds a predetermined value the discharge current is large enough to energize the relay and operate an indicator citcuit. On closing of the switch 9, the relay 10 operates, contact 13 changes over and condenser 19 is charged from a stabilized D.C. supply through rectifier 15. At the end of the time interval, when the vehicle leaves the track section, switch 9 is opened, relay 10 falls and change-over contact 13 completes the discharge circuit for condenser 19 through winding 17 of the relay 16. If the discharge current is sufficiently high, relay 16 is energized, closing a holding circuit via contact 21, and an indicating or control circuit via contact 23.
