Abstract
794,612. Friction clutches. VEB MASCHINEN-UND ZAHNRADERFABRIK GOTHA. Jan. 31, 1956, No. 3059/56. Class 80 (2). The force engaging the discs 3a, 3b of a friction clutch is produced by sliding a throwout sleeve 14 to the left of the Figure, to turn radial levers 9 about their pivot points 8 on a ring 7 so that the short arms 9a of the levers act on thrust elements 10 engaging a presser plate 11, the ring 7 having an internal part-spherical surface 6a engaging with a complementary surface on a sleeve 6 adjustably screwed into a thread 5 in a clutch member 2. The partspherical surfaces 6a ensures that the ring 7 takes up such a position that the force acting on each of the levers 9 is equal. The clutch is adjusted by screwing the sleeve 6 to a desired position in the thread 5, a pin 6b in the sleeve engaging a corresponding notch in the ring 7 so that turning the ring 7 simultaneously turns the sleeve 6. A retaining member 12 on the ring 7 is engaged with external teeth 11a on the presser plate to hold the assembly in the desired position. The sleeve 6 is itself made resilient by forming it with a U-shaped portion 6c. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the resilient sleeve 6 is replaced by a solid sleeve connected to the clutch member 2 through spring means.
