Abstract
794,513. Columns; beams; building slabs. WILLIAMS, F. E., and GORDON, A. May 3, 1955, No. 12850/55. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) In assembling a box or trough shaped permanent casing for cast columns or beams by connecting slabs 20, Fig. 4, together by means of L-shaped straps bolted to the slabs, the slabs are of pre-cast concrete and have screw-threaded metal elements cast therein. The elements may be in the form of nuts welded to steel plates, so as to receive the assembly bolts. Loops 21 may also be embedded in the slabs 20, and positioned in recesses 23, so that rods 22 may connect superposed casings. Additionally loops may be provided on the slabs to assist in securing them to the column cast therein. If the slabs are provided with horizontal and vertical reinforcing bars, the loops and metal plates welded to the nuts, may be secured to the bars. In a modification the loops 21 recesses 23 and rods 22 are omitted, superposed casings being secured together by flat plates bolted to additional nuts cast in the slabs. A horizontal T-shaped beam may be cast and connected to a column as in Fig. 5, the slabs 32 forming the sides of the beam being connected by tie rods 34 engaging loops 35 cast into the slabs. A chamber 35 for storing grain in racks has a false load bearing floor comprising hoppers 16 arranged in rows and delivering split grain into ducts 17 below each row having an. atmospheric air inlet 17<SP>1</SP> and discharging grain-laden air into a cyclone 36. The inclination of the hoppers and the distance between them and the bottom of the ducts 17 being such that in the event of conical piles forming thereon and blocking the hoppers the flow of air is not obstructed sufficiently to prevent removal of deposited grain.
