Abstract

An equi-molecular phenol-aldehyde synthetic resin containing about 1/2 an atom of an alkali metal per mol. of phenol present for use in impregnating filter paper may be made by heating 200 parts of phenol, 160 of 40 per cent aqueous formaldehyde and 40 of sodium hydroxidc in a reflux autoclave at up to 245 DEG F. for about 15 mins.
