Abstract
794,081. Endless belt conveyers. GOODMAN MANUFACTURING CO. May 22, 1956 [July 11, 1955], No. 15778/56. Class 78 (1). In a belt conveyer for use in mine galleries comprising a belt 33 extended between a fixed head section 26 and a tail section 29 which it is desired to shift from time to time, the belt is supported at intervals between the head and tail sections on rollers 67 carried between a pair of parallel cables 34 maintained under tension by means independent of the tail section. Preferably, the cables 34 are stretched between anchorages 36 on the head section and a pair of roof anchors 37. When it is desired to extend the conveyer, a further pair of roof jacks 37a is secured in position and further cables 34a stretched between the roof jacks 37 and 37a as shown. The cables are supported at intervals by spreaders 59 resting on the ground and consisting of a pair of upstanding plates having V-grooves in which the cables are wedged, and a cross member. Idler rollers (not shown) for the lower run of the belt are carried between the upstanding plates of the spreaders. The rollers 67 are arranged in sets of three, their spindles 68 being interconnected by links 69 having horizontal pivotal connections, so that each assembly is flexible in a vertical plane. Further links 71 having vertical pivotal connections connect the outer ends of the spindles of the two outer rollers to hangers 72 which are secured to the cables by pins 73. Two such assemblies are connected between the cables at spaced points between each two adjacent spreaders 59. The head and tail sections 26, 29 are held in position by roof jacks 27, 31, respectively, so that the'tail section is independent of the cable mounting. Each roof anchor for the cable consists of a liner 39 which is secured to the roof in advance, and a tubular leg 44 which may be secured, when required, to studs 43 which depend from the liner. The studs 43 are engaged with a plate 47 welded to the top of the leg and a pair of angle irons 49 carried by webs 48 also welded to the leg. Each leg is telescopic, the lower section 53 having holes 56 of a different spacing to that of a set of holes in the fixed section, so that by inserting a peg in the appropriate holes any desired height of the lower section within half an inch can be obtained. The associated cable passes around a shoe 54 on the section 53 and is first connected by a " come-along " to a plate 41 on the liner 39 to enable the slack to be taken up, and is finally connected by a turnbuckle 58 to a plate 41a on the liner 39 for final tensioning. Further plates 41 and 41a are provided on the other end of the liner for the extension cables 34a which are added when the belt is extended.
