Abstract

The invention comprises metallizable dyestuffs of formula: <FORM:0794059/IV (b)/1> where X is H or an alkyl or alkoxy group, R is H or an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group and R1 is an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group. They are made by diazotizing appropriate diamines and coupling with 8-hydroxyquinoline, preferably in a neutral or faintly alkaline medium. Specified diamines are N,N-dimethyl-, diethyl- and di-(b -hydroxyethyl) - 4 - phenylenediamines, 4 - amino - and 3 - and 41 - methoxy - 4 - amino - diphenylamines, 2 - ethoxy - 4 - diethylamino - aniline and 5 - dimethyl - and diethyl - and (N - ethyl - N - b - hydroxyethyl) - amino - 2 - toluidines. The dyestuffs are applied, preferably in dispersed form, to synthetic textile materials, e.g. cellulose esters, polyamides and polyacrylonitriles, in conjunction with a metallization process. Cobalt, nickel, chromium and copper yielding compounds are mentioned the latter being preferred. Red shades are obtained. Examples are provided illustrating the preparation of dyestuffs from the above listed components and their use in dyeing processes. Specification 761,776 is referred to. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 780,509 and additionally states that R and R1 may be any aryl radicle.
