[Also in Groups XV and XVIII] A name plate, printed circuit, watch dial or the like is produced by first printing a negative of the indicia 1, Fig. 1, on a plate of stainless steel, providing the exposed portions with a - layer of brass or copper in an electroplating bath, adhesively securing a backing sheet to the steel plate, pressing the sheet and plate together and then separating same to transfer the electroplated portions to the backing sheet. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), a stainless steel plate with a negative imprint is dipped in a deposit of silver and then in a deposit of copper prior to securing the backing sheet thereto so that on separation the layers adhere to the latter with the silver uppermost. In a second modification, Fig. 3, a brass plate 5 having an engraving 6, is first provided with a protective coating 5 of ink or asphalt powder baked thereon and then with layers 8, 9, 10 of silver, copper and adhesive respectively which are subsequently transferred to a backing sheet 11. The backing sheet may be made of brass, copper, steel, aluminium, cardboard or a methacrylate polymer and may be painted, plated or chemically treated as desired for decorative purposes. The negative imprint may be effected by the silk screen process or made by offset litho printing.
