Abstract
Compounds of formula H2NCONH.CH2CH(OR)CH2HgX where R is an alkyl group containing up to 3 carbon atoms and X is Cl or Br are prepared by reacting monoallylurea with mercuric chloride or bromide and an alkanol containing up to 3 carbon atoms in the presence of a weakly basic compound. Specified basic compounds include mercuric oxide, potassium bicarbonate and alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts of weak acids, especially carboxylic acids. In an example, 2 - methoxy - 3 - chloro - mercuripropyl urea is prepared by mixing allyl urea and mercuric chloride in methanol, adding sodium acetate and heating. The precipitate is filtered off, washed from inorganic salts and dried. Other examples describe the preparation of 2-methoxy-3-bromomercuripropyl urea, 2-ethoxy-3-chloromercuripropyl urea, and the preparation of 2-methoxy-3-chloromercuripropyl urea in the presence of potassium bicarbonate, cadmium carbonate, mercuric oxide and calcium acetate.
