Abstract
792,890. Rolling; making strip metal. HECK, F. June 5, 1956 [July 18, 1955], No. 17319/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In a method of rolling precompressed strips 7, Fig. 3, of metal powder, the strip is guided by varying the roll gap thickness by equal and opposite amounts at each end to produce a slight curvature. The upper roll 3 is adjustable against springs 6 by screw-downs 9, 10 having threads of opposite hand and rotated from a central spindle 14 through gears 12, 13. Rotation of the spindle 14 may be manual or automatic as by electromagnetic means controlled from feelers at opposite sides of the strip to detect its position. The strip is fed to the rolls 2, 3 by a belt 17 in a muffle furnace 15 containing a protective gas and sags freely before entering the rolls to permit freedom of movements for guiding. The rolls are placed obliquely one above the other so as to reduce the contact of the strip with the lower roll 2 to a minimum. The strip is finally wound on a winch 19.
