A dental instrument for use during the removal of crowns and bridge anchorages from teeth, comprises a heavy handle 1, which has a large cross-section compared with that of a tooth and has a tapering end from which extends a shaft 2, a pin 3 for bearing against a tooth projecting from the end of the shaft 2, the arrangement being such that the force applied to the crown or bridge anchorage during removal is taken up by the heavy mass of the handle. The pin 3 is arranged at an acute angle to the axis of the appliance.
