Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs which, in their free acid form, are of formula <FORM:0792734/IV (b)/1> and which may be made by coupling 1 mol. of tetrazotized 4,41-diamino-3,31-dimethoxy-1,11-diphenyl in either order with 1 mol. of a 1-naphthol disulphonic acid and 1 mol. of 2-benzoylamino - 5 - naphthol - 1,7 - disulphonic acid, and treating the product with a copperyielding agent under conditions to remove the methoxy groups. The 3,6-, 3,8- and 4,8-acids are the preferred 1-naphthol disulphonic acids. Coupling is preferably effected in a sodium bicarbonate to carbonate alkaline solution, the second coupling being preferred in the presence of a tertiary organic base. The dyestuffs dye cotton and fibres of regenerated cellulose in bright blue shades. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyestuffs from the above specified components and their use in dyeing processes.
