A package comprises contents of flat and generally rectangular form enclosed in two cardboard wrappers each provided with two permanent longitudinal creases spaced apart to form a spine corresponding to the thickness of the contents between two wings of a width exceeding half the width of the contents, the wrappers being secured to each other with their wings overlapping at the two faces of the contents and their two spines engaging the longitudinal edges of the contents. Fig. 3 shows a wrapped machine knife 1A enclosed in U- shaped cardboard wrappers 9A, 9B whose overlapping wings 10A, 10B are secured together by an adhesive strip 11 which extends completely around the package. Alternatively, they may be secured together by staples, see Fig. 4 (not shown), in which case short adhesive strips may be applied to the ends of the package. The wings of the wrappers may be made longer than the spines to form tabs which are folded down against the ends of the package and secured by adhesive strips, see Fig. 6 (not shown). Alternatively, folded cardboard end pieces 26, Fig. 7, may be applied to the contents 27 and secured by adhesive strips 29 prior to application of the main wrappers. A machine knife 33, Fig. 9, may be protected by a wooden strip 34 before being packaged as describedabove, and two machine knives may be packaged back to back with or without the use of wooden strips protecting their edges, see Figs. 10-14 (not shown).
