Abstract

792,498. Plug-boards; two-part couplings. AMP, Inc. Aug. 18, 1955 [Aug. 19, 1954], No. 23826/55. Class 38 (1). A socket connector for receiving a tapered pin 14, Fig. 7, comprises a normally cylindrical portion 26 which is integral with and rolled from a flat base portion 15 so as to have a free side edge. The connector is formed from heattreated beryllium copper and has a sharp edge at the entry end of portion 26 which engages the pin as it is inserted and scrapes the surface thereof clean during deformation of the socket into conformity with the pin. Fig. 5 shows a double-ended connector having a pair of socket portions 26 at opposite ends of the base 15 and located between ribs 11 on an insulating block 2 by means of lateral lugs 28, 30, 33. The lugs 28 may be integral with similar lugs on an adjacent double-ended connector so as to form multiple bridging connector, Fig. 6 (not shown). A number of insulating blocks 2 may be stacked one above the other as shown in Fig. 1 to form a multiple connector assembly, the blocks having interfitting, locating projections and recesses and being secured together by screws 7, 8. Double-ended and multiple socket connectors are mounted between the ribs 11, as shown, to provide straight-through connections between two sets of leads or to interconnect a set of leads brought to one face of the assembly, jumper connections being employed on the other face.
