Abstract
791,867. Stretching. HYDRAULIK GES. Oct. 15, 1955, No. 29463/55. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for stretching sheet or rod comprises two transverse beams to which the sheet or rod is clamped and which are moved relatively apart to stretch the sheet or rod therebetween by a pair of rods disposed in the plane of the sheet or rod symmetrically one on each side of its central axis, the rods being secured at one end to one beam and at the other end are accommodated in hydraulic cylinders, by which they are moved, secured to the other beam. A sheet 5 is stretched between chucks 4 on a fixed transverse beam 3 and on a movable transverse beam 2. A pair of hydraulic cylinders 7 on the beam 3 have plunger rods 6, on each side of and in the plane of the sheet 5, locked to the beam 2 by U members 8, in holes 2a in the beam 2, engaging grooves 6b in the rods 6, the position of the beam 2 and the particular groove 6b being adjusted according to the length of sheet to be stretched. In operation the rods 6 push the beam 2 from the beam 3 to effect the stretching. The rods 6, and thus the beam 2, are returned by a stepped piston 15 of an hydraulic cylinder 16, the piston rod 14 pushing a transverse member 13 to which rearward extensions 6c of the rods 6 are attached. The rods 6 may bear against the beam 2 to move it in one direction only, other means being used to move the beam 2 towards the beam 3. The beam 2 may be fixed and the beam 3 movable and the rods 6 may be supported along their length, e.g. at the joins of multi-part rods.
