Abstract

A flame-retarding composition for application to textile fabrics comprises a dispersion in water of 10 to 20 per cent of antimony trioxide, 30 to 50 per cent of plasticizer and the rest polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, a vinyl chloride-vinylidene chloride copolymer or a mixture of these polymers, the proportions being proportions by weight of the total dispersed matter in the composition, and the plasticizer being a composite plasticizer containing at least 15 per cent by weight of chlorine and consisting of a mixture of a conventional plasticizer containing no chlorine, such as dioctyl phthalate or sebacate, and a chlorine-containing plasticizer such as a liquid chlorinated diphenyl or a liquid chlorinated paraffin wax. The composition may also contain an emulsifying agent such as dioctyl sodium sulphosuccinate and an emulsion stabilizer such as sodium carboxy-methyl-cellulose and may be prepared by the method described in Specification 791,803.
