Abstract
791,692. Vehicle wheels. PIRELLI SOC. PER AZIONI. July 4, 1955 [Feb. 16, 1955], No. 19266/55. Class 144 (2). For use with a tubeless tyre, the joint between the two sections 2 of a circumferentiallydivided wheel rim of the type shown in Fig. 4 is airtightly sealed by a rubber or like ring 3, separate from the tyre, the radially inner portion of which is clamped between the rim halves 2. The ring 3 is prevented from radial expansion out of the joint by a reinforcement 4 surrounding, or embedded within, the ring 3, and may be of circular or polygonal section. The reinforcement may be of metal, textile, or synthetic threads, cords or fabric, and similarly reinforced lateral extensions 5, equi-angularly spaced around the ring, may be formed integrally therewith to serve as bead spacers in the event of tyre collapse.
