Abstract

1452828 Replacing tyre tread bands CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 12 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972] 52496/73 Heading B7C An inextensible tread band 20 is fitted to a tubular, wheel mounted tyre carcass 10 by (a) creating a vacuum within the carcass, (b) pushing the crown of the carcass radially inwardly at circumferentially spaced locations to form, e.g. a polygon-like configuration; (c) placing the tread band around the carcass crown, and (d) removing the vacuum so as to allow the carcass crown and the radially inner surface of the band to interengage. The carcass includes circumferentially extending, inextensible bands 18, and radially disposed inextensible hoops 17. The tread band includes circumferentially extending, inextensible filaments 21.
