791.496. Golf clubs. LORTHIOIS, M. Sept. 17, 1956 [Feb. 13, 1956], No. 28327/56. Class 132(2) A golf club has an adjustable head which can be set at different angles by setting two pairs of toothed surfaces 5b, 5a in the required positions, the pairs of surfaces having different pitches to give a differential effect. A toothed surface on the head 7 engages with a toothed surface on a ring 15 which has another toothed surface which engages a further surface on a member 3 at the bottom of the shaft 1. The ring and head are held by a spindle 10 and the toothed surfaces are held together by tightening a nut 11 on the screw-threaded end of the spindle. The end is peened, 12, to prevent loss of the nut. When the surfaces are loosened, a spring 17 urges the ring against the head, the other end of the spring acting against a recess 21 in the member 3. Alternatively the spring may urge the ring against the member 3 acting against a recess 22 in the head. The teeth on the pairs of surfaces are arranged to give a "vernier" adjustment of the angle and are graduated to indicate the nine angles of the conventional clubs. The nut 11 and the ring 15 are knurled to give a better grip for the operator.
