Abstract
791,405. Gear-cutting. HAKANSSON, J. July 22, 1955, No. 21254/55. Class 83 (3). A method of generating spur gear teeth consists in continuously moving a single doubleedged cutting tool 2, of a width less than half the pitch of the gear at the pitch circle, to generate one tooth surface and then, in a reverse movement, generating the other side of the tooth space with the opposite flank of the tool. The tool 2 is reciprocated on a slideway 26, adjustable angularly for helical gears. The work 20 is rotated through gearing 8, 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, 16, 15, 17, 22 and is traversed by gearing 8, 10, 101, 13, 14, 5, the connection of the gear 13 to its shaft being by way of a lost-motion connection adjustable according to the movement required to bring the work into correct relationship with the tool. Thus, at the point of reversal, the tool 2, Fig. 7, is moved to remove the portion indicated by a broken line from the flank F2.
