Abstract
892,878. Toothed gearing. PFAUTER, M., PFAUTER, W., PFAUTER, G., and PFAUTER, H. Jan. 19, 1959, No. 1933/59. Class 80(1). In worm gearing wherein the two flanks I, II of the toothing of a worm have different leads H I , H II , the thickness of the toothing varies along the length of the worm, so that backlash may be taken up by axial movement of the worm, the two flanks of each tooth on the worm and/or the worm-wheel have a different size and shape. As shown, the two flanks extend to different outside diameters. Each flank can then be designed separately in accordance with its respective pitch point C I , C II , to give as long as possible time of engagement, i.e. each flank can be lengthened to a point where undercut is produced. If desired, the pressure angles for the two flanks may differ, each being reduced to increase the time of engagement.
