Abstract
791,264. Brake transmitting mechanism. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET BROMSREGULATOR. March 20, 1956 [March 25, 1955], No. 8705/56. Class 103 (1). In a braking apparatus for railway vehicles in which the leverage can be varied by means of links 5, 6 connecting levers 3, 4 of the fluid pressure brake cylinder 1 and in which link 5 gives a higher leverage when the wagon is loaded and link 6 gives a lower leverage when the wagon is empty, the lost motion in the latter linkage is reduced by an abutment 11, contained in housing 9, which may be moved into the path of an abutment 12 on link 6 so that the lower brake applying leverage is brought into action when the wagon is empty. Unlike the embodiment described in Specification 426,779, the abutment 12 is formed a fixed distance Sx from the movable abutment 11 so that the residual lost motion of the link 6 when abutment 11 is in its operative position and the brake is entirely released has a fixed value which cannot be adjusted. The brake rigging also incorporates an automatic double-acting brake slack adjuster 20 which is actuated by its control mechanism in direct dependence on the movement of the brake piston so as to adjust the brake shoe clearances at each release of the brake. By means of the above arrangement it is possible to use a simple type of triple valve and the necessity of separate adjustment on each wagon of the lost motion of the connecting link giving the lower brake applying leverage is avoided.
