Abstract
790,723. Air raid shelters. DRAGER, O. H. Jan. 24, 1956 [Feb. 24, 1955], No. 2390/56. Class 20(1) An emergency exit 2 from an air raid shelter 1 is closed with sand, earth &c. the soil being-contained in the exit by a door 4 held in position by a removable stop 8 so that the door can be pivoted up about its hinge 5 and secured there by a latch 7 whereupon the sands falls into the shelter or is shovelled in. The sand may be covered with top soil 11 and covered with a roof. The exit 2 may have thin retaining walls 9 provided with climbing rungs 12. The shelter 1 is made of concrete hoops 3. The sand may be used as an air filter. In a modification the hinged door 4 may be dispensed with, the sand falling to its natural slope inside the shelter, the slope forming a support for a seat. A sloping emergency exit may be formed in the roof, and enclosed by a swingable or withdrawable flap. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 753,300.
