[Also in Group II] A dressing apparatus for thrashing machines and combine harvesters comprises a horizontal rotary drum 19 having imperforate and perforated zones 20, 21, the imperforate zone having internal formations 23, 24 which tumble the grain, this zone being located nearer the inlet and so that the grain advances towards the perforated zone, the apertures of which will pass grain but retain chobs, chaff and dust being removed from the product during its travel through the drum by a counter-current of air. The apparatus forms part of a combine harvester having a reel 11, endless apron 12 and endlessband thrashing mechanism 13, the product being conveyed by an elevator 14 and augerconveyer 15 to a stationary casing 18 at the inlet end of the drum. The formations 24 extend into the casing and carry the grain both around and along the interior of the portion 20, while it is subjected to winnowing by a suctionfan (not shown) connected to a pipe 26 through which chaff and dust are carried away for discharge adjacent to the ground. Grain passes through apertures in the perforated zone and is carried by a worm-conveyer 28 to a bagging shoot 29, chobs being ejected from the end of the drum and returned for re-threshing through a shoot 31.
