789,885. Conveying material from the working face in mines. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Dec. 19, 1955 [Dec. 28, 1954; Jan. 17, 1955], Nos. 37467/54 and 1331/55. Class 78 (4). Coal is conveyed between a continuouslyoperating conveyer 10 in a mine and an intermittently-loaded train of trams 12 by a bunker 11 which is formed with a conveyer bottom 13 and can be retracted towards the conveyer to receive material therefrom. The bunker 11 preferably comprises overlapping articulated hopper sections carried by wheeled frames running on a rail track and can be withdrawn so that its front end receives the discharge from the conveyer 10. The conveyer 13 preferably comprises a pair of side-by-side scraper chain conveyers and may deliver to a stationary elevator 16 feeding the trams 12. Alternatively the discharge end of the conveyer 13 may slope upwardly or the track for the bunker may be mounted above the track for the trams 12 so that the conveyer 13 may deliver directly into the trams. The conveyer 13 may be driven from a motor on the elevator 16, the driving connections being made automatically when the bunker 11 is brought to the delivery position. Winch hauling gear for moving the bunker 11 is preferably arranged so that in both directions of motion it places the bunker in compression and interlocks are provided between the drives to the haulage gear, the conveyer 10, the conveyer 13, and the elevator 16. The track feeding the trams 12 to the loading position may run alongside the track for the bunker 11 and may join that track by a switch. More than one conveyer 10 may serve a single bunker 11 and an auxiliary spillage conveyer may pick up coal falling between the trams and return it to the bunker. Buffers stop the bunker 11 in its unloading position in which it is held by suitable locating means.
