Abstract

789,783. Covers for resisting fluid pressure. SPARKLER MFG. CO. April 13, 1956 [April 13, 1955,], No. 11365/56. Class 123(1) A pressure tank consisting of a cylindrical body 1 movable horizontally by means of a hydraulic ram motor 6 on rollers 3 travelling on rails 4 is closed by a stationary cover 2 supported from the rails by an "A"frame 15, the cover being provided with the necessary inlet and.outlet connections 19, 21, &c. and the tank and cover having co-operating locking means. The tank rim has an external reinforcing ring 30 to which is welded a sealing ring 32 provided with an external groove 34 to receive a resilient gasket 36. Welded to the ring 30 are spaced lugs 38 having outturned flanges 40. The rim of the cover 2 is likewise provided with an annular sealing ring 42 having an outwardly extending end portion which surrounds the sealing ring 32 with slight clearance so that the ring gasket 36 is slightly compressed as the tank is closed, see Fig. 17. Locking lugs 44 are welded at spaced intervals around the ring 42, the intervals being such that the lugs 44 will slide between and beyond the flanges 40, see Figs. 9 and 11, leaving a space between opposing faces of the lugs 44 and the flanges. Mounted for rotation on the cover is a locking ring 46 of thickness equal to the space between the lugs and flanges and having inwardly projecting lugs 48. The lugs 48 are of less length than the cover lugs 44 but of greater length than the spaces between them so that when the cover is in the closed position partial rotation of the ring 46 by a handle 56 brings it to a position wherein each lug 48 bridges the corresponding space between adjacent lugs 44, see Fig. 13, thus preventing withdrawal of the flanged. tank lugs 38. 40. In a modification, the seal between the cover and tank is made by means of a resilient L-shaped gasket having a. lip which engages the end face of the cover ring.
