Class 44 [Also in Group X] A clamp for securing a bracing wire 1 for concrete form-work comprises an abutment member 2 and a movable wedge member 3, the abutment member having openings 8 through which the wire is passed and mounting the wedge member so that its longitudinal axis is at right angles to the wire axis, one or both of the members having wire gripping serrations. As shown in Fig. 1 the wedge member clamps the wire between itself and a serrated and hardened insert 4 fixed in the abutment member. The wedge member is provided with enlargements 5 and 6 and the lower enlargement 6 can abut an inclined camming surface 7 on the abutment member which forces the wedge member to the right as shown to expose the opening 8 through which the wire is threaded. As shown the surface of the wedge member which engages the abutment member is plane but in a modification this surface can be formed with a knife edge which engages a suitable bearing surface in the abutment member so that the wedge member can pivot slightly to increase the clamping force. In a further modification instead of providing an insert in the abutment member the wire can be wedged against a wall of the abutment member. The wedge member can be serrated instead of or in addition to the insert or wall of the abutment member.
