789,124. Indicating- and recording-apparatus. UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 23, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1955], No. 5415/55. Class 106 (4). [Also in Groups XV and XX] In a recording thermometer a coiled bimetallic . element 24, which is exposed to a fluid stream is anchored at its outer end and coupled at its inner end to a spindle which carries a magnet 14 close to a non-magnetic diaphragm in the wall 1. A similar magnet 13 outside the wall is mounted on a spindle 11 which carries a U-shaped member 31 which supports, on knife edges, a transverse bar from which projects a capillary tube 34 having a stylus head 35 moving over a rotating recording chart 40. The bar carries counterweights 36. The inner end of the capillary tube dips into an ink reservoir 29 carried by the bridge member 28. A clock mechanism 37 rotates a spindle carrying a circular head 38 on which rests the chart 40 being retained by a sleeve 39 secured by a nut 41. A pin projects from the lower surface of the sleeve 39 through the chart into a recess provided in the head 38. The chart is supported, below the stylus, by a table 42. A guide 44 is provided for the edge of the chart. The spindle 11 may be coupled to the recorder or a pointer through multiplying gearing or rack-and-pinion mechanism to produce a linear movement. The recording chart may move linearly instead of rotating. Specification 661,102 is referred to.
