788,286. Specula. WELCH ALLYN, Inc. Aug. 20, 1956 [Aug. 24, 1955], No. 25396/56. Class 81 (2). A disposable speculum cover comprises a frustoconical or trumpet-shaped body 17 of thin flexible or resilient material open at both ends. The orifice 21 at the apex end has an inwardly extending annular flange 24 which projects into the distal opening of the speculum of an otoscope. An annular portion of reduced diameter grips the speculum to secure the cover 17 in position. A tab 28 and tear strip 31 enable the cover to be easily removed. In an alternative construction a rearwardly extending annular flange 32 secures the cover 17 to a knurled band of the speculum, the rear edge 37 of the flange 32 forming a finger grip. The tab 28 may be omitted. The cover is made of drawn or moulded plastic material and is 0.005 inches thick.
