Abstract

The invention comprises a process for the preparation of 1-p-chlorophenyl-2-ketovaleronitrile by the condensation of p-chlorophenylacetonitrile with a lower alkyl propionic ester, in an inert solvent in presence of sodamide or potassamide. In examples, p-chlorphenylacetonitrile is condensed with isopropyl propionate in toluene using excess of sodamide. The product, obtained as the sodium derivative of the enolic form, is isolated with acid.
