Abstract

The invention comprises alkyl (especially methyl)-N-trityl-L-isoglutaminates, N-trityl-L-isoglutamine and the preparation of these compounds and of L-(+)-isoglutamine by treating a g -alkyl-N-trityl-L-glutamate dissolved in an inert solvent such as methylene chloride with dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide and ammonia, acidifying, recovering from the solution the resulting g -alkyl-N-trityl-L-isoglutaminate, saponifying to obtain N-trityl-L-isoglutamine, detritylating with dilute acetic acid and recovering the resulting L-(+)-isoglutamine. The treatment with dicyclohexylcarbodiimide may be conducted in the absence of ammonia to give as an intermediate the anhydride of bis-(N-g -alkyl-L-glutamic acid) which gives on treatment with ammonia a g -alkyl-N-trityl-L-glutamate.
