786,773. Knitting; finishing fabrics. MELAS HOSIERY CO., Ltd. March 18, 1954 [March 9, 1953], No. 6490/53. Classes 42 (1) and 74 (2). A crepe appearance is produced in an article knitted of a yarn having thermoplastic properties by greatly reducing or eliminating the take-off tension applied to the fabric for the article as it is produced so that a loop structure of irregular formation results. The fabric is then subjected to a setting treatment to set the loops in their irregular formation and subsequently, on completion of the article, the article is subjected to a normal pre-bonding treatment. In the case of a seamed stocking, a stocking blank knitted with the irregular loop formation is subjected to a preliminary heat setting treatment by immersing it for a period in boiling water or conditioning it in a steam atmosphere for a period. Thereafter the blank is dried, seamed and linked and subjected to normal preboarding in a steam atmosphere under pressure for a short time. Specification 676,522 is referred to.
