786,725. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 21, 1954 [Jan. 27, 1953], No. 1883/54. Class 35. In a machine with hollow stator conductors or other axial cooling ducts within the main insulation, conductor-bar end-fittings are provided to serve as electrical end-connections and as ducts for the gas or liquid coolant. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the end fittings 31c, 32e are of copper or other conducting metal, and have a pair of sockets 49, 50 into which the conductors 4a, 4b are soldered. The conductors are built up of hollow strands 51, 52 through which the coolant passes. The fitting may be fabricated of separate parts suitably interconnected or made as a solid unit. Various modifications are described including the use of two radially displaced stacks per slot with the fluid in the two stacks passing in the same or opposite directions, and in the same or opposite directions to that in the conductors in the adjacent slots. Instead of using hollow conductors, solid conductors with separate tubular ducts may be included within the main insulation, and various arrangements of these with respect to the conductors are described. For liquid coolant the end-fittings are connected by insulating tubes, but where gaseous coolant is used, shoots 93a as shown in Fig. 37 may be used. This Figure also shows an arrangement in which coolant is passed through the also in two directions, as well as making the end connections 47a, 47b.
