Abstract

786,686. Wheel rims. KELSEY-HAYES CO. Oct. 27, 1955 [Dec. 29, 1954], No. 30824/55. Class 144 (2). A wheel rim comprises two endless annular members 1, 2 rigidly secured together to form a drop-centre rim, the member 1 including frusto-conical and radial surfaces 15, 16 for engagement with clamping and seating means 29, 24 to mount the rim on a wheel body, and the member 2 being V-shaped in cross-section with one leg 10 providing a tyre bead seat and the other leg 13 extending along, and reinforcing, the frusto-conical portion 8 of member 1 which provides the frusto-conical mounting surface 15. As shown, the member 1 comprises the rim base 6 flanked on one side by one wall 5 from which extends an integral tyre bead seat 3 and retaining flange 4, and on the other side by the radially inwardly sloping frusto-conical mounting portion 8 which terminates in a cylindrical portion 9, the edge of which provides the radial mounting surface 16. The member 2 is welded at 14 to the base 6 of member 1 and the apex 12 of its section provides the other wall of the well-base of the rim. Two such rims are shown mounted on a hollow spoked wheel body 17 in a manner identical with that described in Specification 786,544.
