Abstract

786,582. Glass manufacture. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 14, 1956 [May 12, 1955], No. 13775/55. Class 56. Glass compositions consist of boric oxide, zinc oxide and vanadium pentoride with the ranges,. by weight, lying within the crosshatched area shown in the ternary diagram, alone or with up to 7À5 per cent of one or more of the following oxides, Al 2 O 3 , SiOz, CdO, MnO, CeOz, ZnO 2 , TeO 2 , TiOz, P 2 O 5 , WO 3 , MoO 3 or an alkaline earth metal oxide. The glass is used to join boro-silicate glass to a ceramic, a metal or to further boro-silicate glass, such glass being of approximate percentage composition by weight SiO 2 , 66; B 2 O 3 24; K 2 O+Na 2 O 8; Al 2 O 3 2 and the metal ,glass or ceramic material having a thermal expansion characteristic within the limits 45-50x10<SP>-7</SP> per degree C over the range 20‹400‹C., or the glass may be used to join such metal and ceramic material.
