Abstract

786,163. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Sept. 16, 1955 [Oct. 5, 1954], No. 28589/54. Class 144 (2). A tyre A as described in Specification 786,162 is mounted on a rim 5 comprising a rim base with spaced tyre-retaining abutments thereon disposed axially inwardly of the lateral edges of the rim which form the bead-seating portions 6, the abutments serving to prevent axially inward displacement of the tyre edges 3, 4. Fig. 1 shows the rim base 5 sloping radially outwardly from the central plane of the wheel and terminating in radially inwardly directed steps 6 to receive the tyre edges. Alternatively the rim base may be flat. Fig. 3 shows a flat rim base 11 having radially outwardly projecting folded portions 12 to form abutment ridges. Alternatively the abutments may comprise a pair of rings welded around the rim base.
